Control Self-Talk

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

About 95% of our emotion are determined by the way you talk to yourself. The manner in which you explain a matter to yourself is the critical factor in determining whether you are a positive or negative person.

Your explanatory style is defined as how you explain things to yourself. If you explain or interpret things to yourself in a positive way, you will be positive. If you explain them in a negative way, you will be negative. When something goes wrong, optimisticpeople always explain the event or experience to themselves as though it were temporary, specific situation, rather than a long-term, general condition.

Imagine that you make a sales call and the prospect is not interested in what you are selling. It didn’t work out. It was a waste of time. If you are a positive person, you will say something like, “well, it’s just one sales call.” This makesit temporary. You will say, “The customer is probably having a bad day.” This makes it specific. You then say, “I’ll be more successful on the next call.” This focuses you on the future. When you dismiss temporary setbacks in this way, you keepyour mind positive. You remain confident and optimistic.

Depression and anti-depression pills

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Depression is the most prevalent of all the emotional disorders. This may vary from feelings of
slight sadness to utter misery and dejection. It brings together a variety of physical and
psychological symptoms which together constitute a syndrome.
Depression is the most unpleasant experience a person can endure. It is far more difficult to
cope with than a physical ailment. The growing complexities of modern life and the resultant
crisis, as well as mental stress and strain in day to day living, usually leads to this disorder. It
also arises out of the monotony and drudgery of a daily routine, without any meaningful variation
in urban life. Suicide is the major risk in extreme cases of depression.

The modern medical system treats depression with anti- depression drugs which provide
temporary relief but have harmful side-effects and do not remove the causes or prevent its
recurrence. The harmful side-effects include gross liver damage, hypersensitivity, insomnia,
hallucinations, a confused state, convulsions, a fall in blood pressure which brings on headaches
and dizziness , blurred vision, difficulty in inhaling and urine retention. The plan of action for
self-treatment of depression consists of regulating the diet, exercise, scientific relaxation and
meditation.

Sleep Versus Rest

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

For correct living, it is essential to differential between sleep and rest. At rest the body is
disturbed by all exterior noises ; but in sleep it is screened from them by partial loss of
consciousness and also by what is called “dream protection.” One useful purpose of the dream
is to convert outside noises that might awake the sleeping person, into fantasies that do not
disturb him.
During rest the limbs are normal, but in sleep they swell. Blood flows from the brain, distends the
arteries, and makes the limbs bigger. IN sleep more muscles are relaxed than in rest, though the
sleeping person changes his position many times in one night (approx. 35 times), without knowing it.  Many
organs which work during rest suspend their activities in sleep. Thus the recouping value of
sleep is much more than that of rest or simple lying down.
