REDUCE STRESS, DULLNESS, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION or LAZINESS

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

REDUCE STRESS, DULLNESS, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION or LAZINESS. Be it stress, dullness, anxiety, depression or laziness, while going through any of these, we can finely notice the physical changes in ourselves. Our energy level goes low and there are times we feel weak. Well, the nice and interesting way to feel good and come out of such negative gestures is – MOVE YOUR BODY. Dance, play a sport, involve in home/office activity or as I have always been suggesting, go for a nice morning walk (everyday morning). Such activities divert your mind off the negatives and most of the times your frustration, anger and any other negative emotion is eliminated in such activities, after which you feel fresh, relaxed and relieved. Sitting idle at a place lets your mind jump into negative and unnecessary thinking. When the body is active and in work the mind also stays fresh and active. Moreover, physical activity releases endorphins found in brain. Also when you get into physical activity, your hunger is lifted and this eventually gives you a proper food balance. Therefore, physical activities provide a good energy that can lift a mood, be it anxiety or mild depression and it’s also a good way to keep you healthy.

Remembering Names

Always Associate
Examples:-
Renu might like to run.
Prasoon might have monsoon as his favourite season.
Cathy might love cats.

  • When introduced, ask for the name to be repeated. Use the name yourself as often as possible (without overdoing it!). If you find the name to be unusual, ask how it is spelled, or where it comes from. If it is similar to a name you know, a friend’s or relative’s or if you’ve never heard a name like it before, mention it. The more often you hear the say the name, the more likely it is to sink in.
  • If not sure of the spelling or the pronunciation, try to spell it. Either you’ll spell it correctly and flatter the person, or he’ll correct you and be flattered by your interest. Either way, you’ve helped to ‘knock’ that name into your memory.
  • Always use the name when you good-bye. That should help you in remembering the name till you meet the person the next time.

Keep The Mind active

What about evening classes in a new subject you have never had time for previously, or crosswords, games such as chess or bridge, logic puzzles and lateral thinking games?
Toss the calculator. Next time you balance your cheque book, do it in your head or on the paper.
Learn a new word every week. Have each family member bring a new word to dinner once a week.
Read riddles books and try to solve them. These also make good party icebreakers.
Get organized! Keep your keys in the same place each day. Clean your desk. Straighten your closet.
Increase your base knowledge. Ask people about their profession and you may go deeper with questions like “What does it mean to be an orthodontist?” or “What is the most challenging part of dentistry?” Learning is a way to continually sharpen the mind.

Face The Mirror

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Well, it’s now time to face your problems directly. Face it before it overcomes you.
Stop hiding from yourself. Everyone has difficulties and problems that persist over time. You are not alone in this. It is time to face your problems with courage and honesty.

Technique:-

FACING THE MIRROR
This is a simple technique for overcoming denial. Admitting you have a problem can be difficult, embarrassing or shameful. Therefore, we many a time avoid thinking about it, hoping it will magically resolve itself. Perhaps you are noticing a symptom of some physical problem and afraid of getting it checked, addicted to shopping, smoking or something else and finding yourself out of control OR you know you are beyond overweight. It is only human to have problems. What is important is that you face them.

Try this technique when you feel you are avoiding your problems.
Find a time when you can be alone. Stand in front of your bathroom mirror or a full-length mirror.
Look at your reflection. Speaking out loud, tell yourself three things you like about yourself. It could be that you are a good listener, a very intelligent person or a great cook. Love the person looking back at you. Tell yourself you know you are struggling, but it is important to admit to the problem that has been dragging you down.
Out loud, in a clear voice, tell yourself the problem you have been avoiding. For example: you might say ‘I am overweight and I need to lose it for my health and well-being.’ Repeat your statement three times.
You also need the solution. So now, instead of thinking the origin of the problem or the results of it, you are now going to commit to taking a step to resolve your problem within the next 24 hours. Say out loud what you plan to do. Repeat it three times.

REMEMBER: You have to speak it loud. Loud enough, so that it enters in your sub-conscious mind.
Complete the technique with a smile on your face on your face the happiness of accepting the problem and now working on the solution. Congratulate yourself for your courage and honesty.

Productivity not Procrastination

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

I have always been speaking and writing about relaxation. Maybe some people have taken my relaxation in wrong sense. Relaxation doesn’t have to mean spending all day on a beach or listening to pleasant music and doing nothing. We need to learn how to relax, even in the midst of our daily activities. Prioritize the things that you need to do. If you do things systematically, one at a time, you will feel less stressed and get things done quickly. It’s when we try to do several things at once that we put ourselves under great pressure — this struggle which makes relaxation impossible. Don’t make life hard for yourself. Do one thing at a time and enjoy doing it. When you’ve completed your necessary work, then you have the reward of pleasing yourself without a guilty conscience.
